Shingles Vaccine Petition

Shingles is a painful and potentially serious condition, and older adults are at highest risk.
Post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) can cause persistent pain, reduced mobility, and limits on independent living.

In 2024, the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) recommended the recombinant zoster vaccine (Shingrix) for all adults aged 65 and over. The current cost (€480–500) is a financial barrier that prevents many older people from accessing this protection.

Active Retirement Ireland (ARI), representing over 24,000 older people nationwide, urges the Department of Health to provide publicly funded shingles vaccination. This follows a strong mandate from our members, passed at our AGM, to advocate for equitable access to this vaccine. We also call on the Minister for Health to prioritise this issue in Budget 2027.

The Petition Ask: We call on the Minister for Health, the Department of Health and the Health Service Executive to:
