Active Retirement Ireland was saddened to learn of the passing of John Brodie, a longtime member of the Active Virginians Active Retirement Association in Cavan, and a former Regional Chairperson and board member.

John was a driving force behind the first ever Active Retirement Ireland National Bowls Competition and led training for group committees in the North East region. He was a proud member of both the Active Virginians and the University of the Third Age, with whom he went on many trips to Trinity College and to Northern Ireland to take part in activities to improve the lives of older people in Ireland.

A passionate advocate for older people’s inclusion in society, John worked tirelessly within Active Retirement Ireland to arrange opportunities for members to showcase their contributions to local communities. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.

John Brodie is survived by his loving wife Anne, their six children and their nineteen grandchildren.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis agus leaba dó i measc na naomh.
