In late May, two of the Regional Development Team along with the Development Programme Coordinator completed their LGBT Champions training with LGBT Ireland. This was part of our ongoing strategy at Active Retirement Ireland to build our capacity as a national organization and to continue our ongoing commitment to ensuring that our membership is as diverse and inclusive as possible.
Tackling loneliness and isolation among older people in Ireland means understanding that our members come from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. It is our goal to ensure that all older people find their voice as members of Active Retirement Ireland and support each other to be empowered in later life.
The training with LGBT Ireland is just one step towards ensuring that our staff and volunteers have the awareness and understanding to inform best practice not only in welcoming members of the LGBT+ community but with all our members whoever they may be.
