It has been brought to our attention that a “pig derby” will be held in a North Dublin pub in aid of an older person’s group not affiliated to Active Retirement Ireland. Given the heat, this event will be detrimental to the pigs, and should be cancelled.
Active Retirement Ireland unequivocally condemns cruelty to animals, and calls on the organisers to cancel this event. Many events involving animals have been run to raise funds for Active Retirement groups, including race meets, dog shows and others, and while many may not agree with events involving animals at all, Active Retirement Ireland insists on a minimum standard of animal welfare.
